Only that it does, games can use 4 threads finally... wait a minute if the i5 7600k only has 4 threads where is system and back ground stuff getting their resources from? see the issue? optimizing games to use 4 cores killed 4 cores processors in a way...

a GTX 1080 is too much GPU horse power to be paired with a 4c/4t only processor, but OP bought Kaby Lake when Coffee Lake's out already the only upgrade he has is the i7 7700k which will be awful money management now, there is nothing to do but "deal with it" and learn better before pairing nVidia's second highest end GPU in the market with just a 4c/4t processor in late 2017.

Wait Ice Lake 10nm processors and start over.

That's not exactly how it works lol. The game doesn't 'take over' threads. Theres something called a scheduler that handles all of that in the kernel of your OS. Otherwise when you run something like Prime95 your entire PC would freeze.

Now, if a synthetic benchmark can run on 4 threads, and still have windows function, why cant a game that's much less intensive? A game doesn't constantly pin all cores to 100%. Will you see a loss in performance though? Yes. How significant? Probably not enough to spent over $300. This is my opinion. If you think it is worth it, then that's fine. But its not unreasonable to use a 4 core CPU with no HT for gaming in my opinion. Especially one with such high SC performance.

Oh ok my bad.

But is 650 watts enough for an OC 7700K (assuming OP OCs the CPU), GTX 1080 etc?

Very much so

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Money isn't really a problem. The problem for me is that I don't know as much about components as you guys do. So you recommend me to change the i5 7600k with a i7 7700k? And to add a additional 8gb ram stick...?

i mean if you want to get a 7700k then i say go for it but you shouldnt need it

Definitely add more RAM and see if this fixes any of your problems. I don't see why you should be having issues your setup is pretty strong as it is and without going to SLI or a 1080Ti you won't see a big difference from other upgrades, at least not enough to justify the cost.

Meh some build specs...

Meh some inspirational quote meh...
