New laptop

I am considering getting a HP laptop to start out with, and it has basically an i5, 8gigs of RAM, 5400 rpm 1TB HDD with 6.5 hrs of battery life. (Store Link) Is there anything else that I should look out for and are there any better alternatives under $700?

What model is it?

 

Specs basically means little to nothing. More important things are real world battery life, build quality, display quality etc

 

For that budget I would suggest Acer Swift 3 with 8250U CPU. Don't buy laptops with 7th gen or older ULV 2c4t CPUs, poor performance

HP Pavilion laptops aren't that great in terms of build quality, the Swift 3 has better build quality

 

Can't say on durability though since buying laptops is like gambling. You don't know how long will a laptop last.
