Hi,

I'm currently rocking an i5-4670k oc'ed to 4.0 ghz with 16 gigs of ram and a gtx 1070. I use this pc exclusively for gaming and I'm on a 1080p 60hz display. My problem right now is that I play lots of  AAA titles and the more cpu intensive ones stutter(bf1 for example) - so I'm not looking for high framerates, I'm looking for a smooth experience. Basically looking for opinions on these upgrade options:

1. Buy a used i7 - unfortunately where I live the 4770 is a little bit more expensive than an r5 1600 (I'm not sure I want to spend so much money on a dead platform)

2. Buy an r5 1600 + mobo and ram + upgrade path

3. Wait for the new i5-8400 to be in stock - I'm hesitant here because last time I bought an i5 rather than an i7 and right now I'm suffering for it.

The i7-8700 is not an option - way too expensive. I know intel cpus are faster for gaming but if intel end up changing the platform again for the next generation I'll be in the same situation I'm in right now. So any opinion is appreciated! :)

I don't want to wait too long because I've had enough of stuttering honestly.

I would go with the new Intel i5 overclockable. Last gen I think there was only a 25 percent performance difference between i5 and i7 so it stands to reason that it would be fine with the 50% performance boost over 7th gen.
