Hello

I have a friend that he is confusing on, does 550w PSU enough for these specs:

I7- 7700k

ASUS STRIX Z270H Gaming

Crucial MX300 275GB SSD

WD 1TB (BLUE)

MSI GTX 1070 GamingX 8GB

Cooler Master 212 LED Turbo

Cooler Master LITE 5 RGB

PSU: Cooler Master V550 80PLUS GOLD

For safety and relax him, I would like to know even if overclocked or overload, Will it work perfectly fine?

Because this is a huge money to him, so I and he really wants to make sure.

Thank you

If i had to take a guess, i would say ya its probably fine. If you went to peak overclocks on all your components id say it would be close though. One way to get an idea of at least stock power draw, is use PCPartpickers website. Punch in all the parts for your build, and it estimates the stock total power draw from all the components. From there, look up a few quick reviews on the CPU and the GPU your using on overclocked power draw. GamersNexus does a great job doing this so try there first ^_^ That will give you a more definite answer instead of a guess =P

Yes, it's enough. However, I advice you not get that pc. Intel just launched the 8th gen CPUs so now we're getting i5s with 6 cores that are better than the 7700k. You'd be better off getting a cheaper 8600k and use the money saved on a 1080.

Yeah 550 watts should be plenty for that system, little napkin math puts it around 470 draw, at full load assuming just minor OC just keep in mind if you decide to add stuff like more hard drives etc it'll slowly creep up, and he's got a little room to play with, around 80 watts. On a side note the V series PSUs are generally regarded to be well built so shouldn't need to worry unless he decides to add in a bigger GPU or another card entirely.

I think the best response to this is how likely are you to upgrade in the near future?

The system should run quite nicely without overclocking on the 550 but maybe look into getting a 650w for peace of mind.

Also can't go wrong with the Cooler Master Brand

Thank you u guys so much, I am communicating with my friend, he is so urged to get this PC as soon as possible.

May I ask when will be the 8th gen released or start to sell?

Just assuming he play BF1 or star wars battlefront 2 with MSI OS/GAMING MODE overclocking, will the system work fine.

8th gen is already released and available.

As DocSwag has said, the 8th Gen CPU is available now.

I mean the take away from all of this is that in 1-2 years, he will likely change components anyway, maybe not CPU or Drives, but GPU and Potentially PSU also. Honestly, I'd say with a 650 running a single card with some overclocking, you shouldn't have a problem.

It might just be best to wait for an 8600K to be in stock. It's marginally better in most tasks and costs less (assuming you can find it in stock, ya know).

550W is about double what your hardware will use without overclocking and about 200W more than it would use with overclocking.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
