Audio Jack for Record Player

as the word SPEAKER is written above it, I assume this is meant to connect passive speakers - and the sockets look like chinch connectors could fit.

using cinch to connect passive speakers is not very common but i have seen and owned some hifi systems that did this.

i think it has been done primarily in the 80's or late 70's when HIFI moved over from DIN connectors to cinch for line level cables but manufacturers had not yet decided on what to use to replace DIN speaker connectors

just buy a pair of cinch connectors and solder speaker wires to them. red wire goes to the center contact

As said above, they're RCA connectors.

Although, as oppose to above I doubt that they're powered RCA connectors.

Unless your turntable is a part of a larger component system, the you're gonna use RCA cables to connect the turntable to a phono pre-amp.

I would think they would be powered.

OP, does the turntable have volume control on it?
If not, then it is probably just a standard phono level out.

So they aren't RCA connectors?

They are.

RCA connectors are capable of being powered. Back in the day it wasn't that uncommon for cheaper systems to use RCA connectors for connecting to passive speakers.
