When buying memory for quad-channel systems, buy a quad channel kit, e.g. 4x16GB. Buying two dual channel kits runs the, albeit small, risk of the memory not running in quad-channel.

Do you have any links for the claim about Samsung 960 drives? The 960 Pro has a 5 year 480 TB write warranty. Given how many of these units Samsung is selling, I have my doubts that they would not live up to the warranty.

Just switched to a dual channel kit that comes with 4 sticks from g.skill. (Still 64gb total)

I don't think that is a common issue though and I'm pretty sure the type of kit has more to do with the motherboard's memory controller than the RAM.

Also my claim was about the 480tb rating on the warranty, but additionally, M.2 heat dissipation is a pain in the ass.

I've read reviews for motherboard m.2 heatsinks and they don't seem to work well. Maybe I can use the dimm.2 slot on the ASUS xenith extreme edition motherboard I chose instead???

You are right that these days problems running multi-channel memory are uncommon if the part numbers are identical. However, the potential is there.

While the memory controller is the one that determines multi-channel memory operation, it does require memory modules that have near identical electrical characteristics. The four memory modules of a quad channel kit have been matched and fall within the controllers' tolerances for multi-channel operation.

As you say the dimm.2 should resolve any M.2 overheating issues. Especially if a memory fan is added.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
