dual m.2 nvme ssds

kekarot
Go to solution Solved by DocSwag,

It'll work, both drives will just go through the chipset pcie lanes.

However, if this is just a gaming build I suggest you not get nvme ssds, as it's a waste of money. They don't perform any better than sata ones.

i want to install dual m.2 nvme ssds

mobo - ROG STRIX Z270E GAMING

cpu - 7700k

chipset is z270 as mentioned above

2 1080 tis will take the 16 pci e lanes from the cpu

so will installing 2 m.2 nvme ssds to the z270 chipset have any impact on its speed?

is there any difference between connecting an m.2 nvme ssd to the pci e lanes from the cpu and the pci e lanes from the chipset?

i don't want a RAID setup. just 2 separate m.2 nvme ssds. 1 for the boot drive and the other for storage

as i understand the z270 chipset has 24 pci e lanes

The GPU will use the 16 lanes from the CPU.

The chipset will provide the lanes for the m.2 SSDs, independent of the CPU lanes.

So no, no impact.

Currently majoring in computer networking. That's about it yeah. Not much goes on in my life.

but yea the mobo has 2 m.2 slots where you can put m.2 SSD and your system would be a bit faster than with SATA SSD

ask me about your system builds, AIO's, CPU's, PSU's, and GPU's.

so are you saying that the 2 m.2 nvme ssds will perform just as fast as they will if they were connected to the pci e lanes from the cpu?

can the dmi 3.0 link between the cpu and the chipset be saturated?

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
