Should I get an HDD or SSD? (And which one)?

WAR Corporation

Hello,

Before I start the post I would like to know the answer for a few questions:

- I know that an SSD will be much faster than an 7200 RPM HDD but I need something that will last 'more than 21 days'. I've been unlucky with my last (and first) SSD (OCZ Trion 150 240GB TLC) and I'm pretty afraid that it'll stop working 20 days or even 2 months of booting the PC with the new SSD. I am just afraid. Was I unlucky? Or SSDs are just like that? You just have to buy the right one and kinda... hope? for it not to break? I don't mind if my computer is slower just because I'm using an HDD instead of an SSD. I just need something that will last for the next at least 2 years!

The real question is: Should I get an hard drive rather than an SSD. I don't want to spend unnecessary money on something that will break in the first couple of months and having to replace it every month.

I've been learning about SSD Types and I think I would want a MLC SSD (if I choose to buy an SSD) since they are better in both performance and longevity than TLC ones but worst than a SLC SSD. STORAGE IS NOT IMPORTANT. It just needs to be my boot drive.

ALSO, IF I INSTALL VISUAL BASIC, CS:GO, MINECRAFT, UNITY ENGINE... WILL MY SSD DIE FASTER? OR...?

So, Hard drives:

          - Western Digital Black 500GB 7200RPM (https://www.pcdiga.com/disco-western-digital-black-2-5-sata-iii-500gb-wd5000lplx)

FULL PAGE WITH ALL HARD DRIVES: https://www.pcdiga.com/disco-hdd

And SSDs:

I'm thinking of buying either...:

          - Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB MLC (https://www.pcdiga.com/ssd-kingston-ssdnow-v300-120gb-sv300s37a-120g)

          - SanDisk Plus 120GB MLC (https://www.pcdiga.com/ssd-sandisk-plus-2-5-120gb-sdssda-120g-g26)

          - HyperX Fury 120GB MLC (https://www.pcdiga.com/ssd-kingston-hyperx-fury-120gb-shfs37a-120g)

          - Kingston SSDNow UV400 120GB TLC

FULL PAGE WITH ALL SSDs: https://www.pcdiga.com/disco-ssd

Just remember: I wouldn't mind if I get an SSD, but I don't want to get great performance for a couple of months and having to replace it in the end, every time.

I'm on a pretty limited budget of around 70 to 75 bucks.

Thank you so much for helping me. Also, I just build my PC 21 days ago and now I can't use it because my SSD died.

I'm on an limited budget... I'm only 15 and I don't work... I will try my best to get that extra 20-30 bucks to get the EVO but I don't know... I just wasted 90 bucks on that SSD for nothing. I don't want to get disappointed again...

I forgot to mention but I painted my OCZ SSD and I had to remove the 'Warranty will be voided if you remove this' sticker. Pretty unlucky huh... Can't RMA it

I guess I just got unlucky. I think SSDs are reliable? According to some people? But I'm just afraid... I guess I'll try to buy the 120GB Samsung EVO SSD... if I can find it for a good price.

@Himommies Good news I guess... the 120GB Samsung EVO SSD is selling for about 75 bucks! https://www.kuantokusta.pt/informatica/Armazenamento-Interno/Discos-SSD/Samsung-120GB-850-Series-2-5-SATA-III-TLC-SSD-MZ-75E120B-p-1-389816

But not in my store unfortunantly... I might just ask via e-mail if they could add it (since they say if I want to ask for a product that isn't available in their store, I can ask via e-mail).

But isn't this SSD a TLC V-Nand? What does it mean? does it mean that it's better than a regular TLC and worst and an MLC? I'm confused...

If you do end up getting another SSD maybe don't paint it and remove warranty void stickers. That way if the drive fails, it's covered under warranty.

Yeah you're probably right... I was stupid enough to do such a dumb thing... Idk I just... idk why I did it in the first place.

Everyone does things that looking back ended up being dumbt. The important thing is that you learn from your mistakes and try not to make similar ones in the future. In the long run, killing an ssd was a way better outcome than killing a gpu, or cpu. In looking at the website you posted they have 120 gb wd green ssds for a reasonable price too. I'd definitely take a look into those too.
