Cheap NAS/Game Server and Plex Server

aneil1998

As the title says, i'm looking to build a PC for the aformentioned stuff. I'm currently stuck on deciding whether to buy a used server on ebay for $150 and pay the expensive shipping charge(approximately $200) to deliver it to where i am(I'm not living in the US) or buy a cheap Core 2 Quad combo for $50.

Rig: Thermaltake Urban S71 | MSI Z77 G45-Gaming Intel Core i5 3570K (4.4Ghz @ 1.4v) CM Hyper 212 EVO | Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB | MSI GTX 660 | Kingston 120GB SSD | Seagate 3TB HDD | EVGA 850W B2

i would just buy a cheap ass core 2 duo and put a 1tb drive in it , a single server should easily be able to run on a dual core :P pst : u can also get core 2 quads for 5buck xD

id like to refer u to scrapyard wars on this one :P

pst i used to run a cod4 server(war server 10player max), archeblade server and a ts3 server with full file transfer ( like a nas ) at the same time ona  core 2 duo e5400 and it was all fine ^^

Thanks, i'll look into buying it in parts. Idk why, but that scrapyard wars line made me laugh

My first home server was an Intel Pentium 4 HT (1 Core with Hyper Threading) clocked at 3.0Ghz. This thing was SLOW, as in it still had the Windows XP license sticker on the case. xD . . . but it cost me nothing, free from work.

But once I installed FreeNAS, I had Plex Media server, Sonarr, Radarr, Minecraft Server, a Windows Backup machine and an Apple Time machine backup with no issues!

Defo stick with a Core 2 Quad, spend the rest of your money on storage, because I would recommend new hardware for that. :)

My Gaming Rig: AMD Ryzen 5600x  |  Corsair H100i GTX  |  ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming  |  32GB Samsung DDR4 3600MHz  |  ASUS RTX 3070 ROG Strix  |  WD Black 240GB NVMe  |  1TB Samsung 850 Pro SSD | 2TB Samsung Enterprise SSD  |  WD Black 1.5TB   |  3x NZXT Aer RGB 140MM  |  Seasonic Focus 750w   |  NZXT H500 Elite   |  Windows 10 Pro

My Home Server: AMD Ryzen 1400x  |  Gigabyte Aurora B550 Elite  |  32Gb Samsung DDR3 3200Mhz  |  HP RTX 2060 6GB  |  1TB Samsung 850 Pro  |  2x Seagate IronWolf Pro 18TB | 3x Seagate IronWolf Pro 4TB |  2x WD Green 2TB  |  Corsair CX650m  | Bitfenix Shinobi | Windows Server 2022
