Hard drive transfer?

Hey guys, I've bought parts to upgrade my current PC. I have a lot of things on my current hard drive and I plan to take it out of my current rig and plug it in to my new rig. I do not know if this is possible or not. Thanks for helping!

Yes it is, you just take it out of your current rig and plug it into your new one assuming it's a sata drive.

Just don't expect Windows to boot up perfectly without any issues. You'll most likely need to format and reinstall Windows. If you're just going to use your current HDD as storage, then it'll be fine.

I see... so this will happen if I have windows installed on this hard drive? Sorry, I'm not very knowledgeable in this type of stuff :p.

Just make sure the system doesn't boot off of that particular drive. If it does try to boot onto that drive, it'll probably just blue screen and restart, no big deal.

I actually just want to clarify, will I lose all the data on my hard drive if I do this?

You won't loose any data if you try to boot off of it.

I see. So if I moved this hard drive into my new system I will not lose my files?

As long as you don't format it, you won't loose any files.
