So, I haven't posted anything on here for a long while, last time I believe was me getting my very first PC. Since then, I still have the computer I bought, however with some different parts, via (AMD 8350fx instead of Intel), (AMD 7870ghz edition instead of Nvidia 900 series). <-- Mainly due to money management, and a friend selling at good prices. However.. as this story continues on at this I feel like this PC isn't holding up its weight. Months ago I upgraded my AMD 7870 to a Nvidia 1070 Evga edition. (Which I should have waited now that is cheaper) :/.. But still having the same CPU. Now I am buying upgraded parts, as I recently purchased a newer SSD which holds more space, and 5 noctua 140mm fans which was 20$ each. If anyone is interested in maybe looking at the rest I am going to buy, here is the list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zmKZpb

However, to be fair. I am hearing about a new Intel chip coming out so I might hold off on the motherboard and CPU until I see the specs of the new CPU. However, the others are still what I plan on buying.

Now, to the title of this thread. (Sorry, I didn't wanna make two posts). As I still have my current PC, with the 1070. When I press the shut-down button, it doesn't turn off. My monitor turns black, but my PC lights via (motherboard, video card, etc etc) are still running. I even given it some time. Is this normal? It recently started doing this some time ago, It never done this before. I might give it more time after making this thread, to check to see if i'm being a little too impatient.

Though if needed to know, I have Windows 10 Pro. I just, never had this problem of my PC taking longer than usual to shut down. Especially since windows is on a SSD. If that matters.

If this is a known problem, or anyone experienced this issue, hope that you'd share your insight on how you fixed, or attempted to fix.

Thanks DX

To check if the problem is within your windows install: check SMART values for you SSD (and HDD if you have any); do a full scan with an antimalware/antivirus; de-frag the system (or run "optimize" for the SSD); delete temporary files and temporary system files with disk-clean up utility; fix registry errors; check in services.msc which services you are running that you don't need.

If the SMART test fail on the SSD, you know where's the problem. If it fails on the HDD, unplug it and test if there's any difference in the boot times. Proceed with the rest.

You can also try to run the "POWER" troubleshooter built in windows to check for any power-related problems.

If you still experience problems, try to go into the BIOS and change/disable options about boot/shutdown like fast boot (Which can cause problems on many hardware combinations).

Your pc simply may not be doing a full shutdown. Windows 10 especially has a habit of essentially putting your pc into a hibernation-like mode instead of fully shutting down, so that the next time you "turn it on" it is able to resume a lot faster as it swaps anything in memory to your ssd/hdd until it "boots" back up, where it reverts it back to memory.
