Ping Spikes

So out of nowhere whenever I'm playing games or surfing the internet my ping spikes and it has been happening for a while and I thought it would go away. Well, it hasn't, and it's making me mad! Recently when it happened I tabbed out and realized that I still had internet access. Note that we just got another modem for our phone line (I know, who still uses a landline), so that could potentially be a problem. But, it could just be a faulty cable. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Can you run a signal test from the modem and post it on here? If not, call your ISP and ask them if the signals are fine. This is ADSL you're talking about right?

A new modem won't solve an existing signal problem if the fault is on the outside.
