Vinyl-wrap a server case

Hi,

will wrapping a server case with vinyl affect thermal performance of the case? All the existing openings will be still there afterwards. My question just is, if the plastic (vinyl) layer on top of the steel-plates will have an impact on temps inside the case because its maybe not as translucent for heat anymore as before?

guessing you're talking rackmount, those cases are designed to be squeezed in between equally hot siblings.

 

what i'm however more worried about is the temperature resistance of the vinyl wrap, because rackmount servers can totally hit 60-70°c case temperature.

It won't be a problem the vinyl can take a fair bit of heat and the steel casing doesn't actually provide any real cooling to the system.

Yes, i am talking about rackmount-cases - but there will be only two of them and the first one should not get too hot... I think on cars i could be worse... If a car with a black-vinyl stands outside in summer... but i don 't know for sure.

But if it would come off then... bad luck and i will peel that stuff off again.

My main concern now - before i start with this project -is if thermals of the internal components would be affected by this.
