Poor performance in Hollow Knight

I just decided to install Windows 10 fresh on my Ubuntu laptop, as I can't be bothered to take my desktop PC to uni this year.

I wanted to use this laptop for light gaming at uni, so I decided to run a low spec game, Hollow Knight. But I can barely get 30fps, with lots of stuttering/frame dips.

My specs are:

  • i3-4100M @ 2.5GHz
  • HD graphics
  • 4GB RAM

Is my laptop really this cr*p? It's only a few years old.

in a way, yes.. though look at older retro games like heroes of might and magic 1-4, lucasarts and sierra adventure games, fallout 1&2, diablo 1.. the list goes on.. check gog for most of them.. great games that will run on basically anything these days (if you haven't, monkey island 1-3 is essential gaming

Have you tried to perform a sudden temporary interrupt of the electricity flow to your computational device followed by a re-initialization procedure of the central processing unit and associated components?

I tried a pixel graphics game, Crypt of the Necrodancer. Seems to run fine.

the requirements for that game is much lower than hollow knight..

necrodancer:

MINIMUM:

OS: Windows XP, service pack 3

Processor: 2GHz

Memory: 1000 MB RAM

Graphics: 512MB VRAM

Storage: 1600 MB available space

hollow knight:

MINIMUM:

OS: Windows 7

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E5200

Memory: 4 GB RAM

Graphics: GeForce 9800GTX+ (1GB)

DirectX: Version 10

Storage: 9 GB available space

Additional Notes: 1080p, 16:9 recommended

hollow knight reccomends 8 gb ram.. you should try and update your laptop to 8 gb anyways as 4gb is pretty low these days..
