So a while back i made a post here about how why i couldn't overclock my i7 6700k.

And the answer was simple i had bought a h110 chipset motherboard and not a z170.

So i own a cooler master Seidon 120v ver.2 and on my old motherboard i never had temp issues.

Bet when i switched them a few day ago from my old h110 motherboard to a new Asus z170k motherboard.

I get idle temps of 50-60 and 100%load of 90 Celsius 90 that's insane.

So i thought i might have installed my water cooler wrong sins it has been over a year i last swapped parts.

I reattached the water-block cable to a chassis fan connector and attached the coolingblock fan to the cpu fan connector.

I made sure that the waterblock is attached firmly to the motherboard

Cleaned the cooling heat-spreader where the fan is attached.

Rebooted in to windows but nope temps spiked up again to almost 90 degrees Celsius.

I have no idea what to do

And no i do not have it overclocked.

Are you reading temperature from BIOS or a software? It looks more like a failure read.

Can you try setting the fan headers to 100% in the bios rather than controlled on auto and see if that makes a difference?

Im back and in the bios it says 36 idle but when i stress test it in Intel's extreme Tuning Utility it still spikes up the 80-85 degrees.

That sounds normal.

XTU's stress test can put some crazy load on the CPU. I've seen temps that high on my 6700K when I was using an H100i, and that's a 240mm AiO cooler.

A 120mm AiO cooler won't really be able to handle high temperatures any better than a bulky air cooler might.

Fortunately, no real world applications outside of things like video rendering will put that much stress on your CPU.

You'll be okay, even with the overclock.

The temps, while high, aren't anywhere near dangerous. And you'll never really see temps that high under normal operation.

My pleasure. Enjoy your PC and enjoy some good gaming.

You really shouldn't need to do anything else from here on.

If temps continue to be a concern and you're unable to get a bigger cooler just yet, here's some recommendations

- Keep the CPU at stock speeds (or even underclock to 4.0Ghz)

- Try undervolting the CPU to a lower but stable voltage

The difference is gaming won't be noticeable. I promise.

Especially with undervolting. If it's stable, there will be no drop in performance at all.

It's good then. In gaming, a good temperature is 60-70, while some very demanding games can push it near 80°. For stress test, 70-90° is normal. A stress test is usually MUCH more intensive than anything realistic.
