I have the Samsung HT-z320, it was a hand-me-down and it's a pretty good system, it does the job when I used to have it plugged into my xbox one.

So what's going on now is it doesn't seem to make sense that it doesn't work, because it doesn't seem like it's working in games like Alien: Isolation.

When I go into playback devices > Supported Formats > and test each encoded format and sample rate, it plays the discrete sound out of each individual speaker. The sub, then left, then center, then right, back right, back left.

It works flawlessly for each of those supported formats, so why wouldn't it across the board?

Then I get to the Advanced tab. I choose the DTS Interactive option and when I test it barely plays out of even the left and right speaker, it seems delayed, and makes no sense.

Also sometimes it automatically returns to the 2 channel option. Which makes no sense at all.

I've even read through a good portion of this thread

https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/unlocked-realtek-hd-audio-drivers-for-windows-10-dolby-digital-live-dts-interactive.228612/

And before any of this, I decided to go with a post who wrote a guide on the 2nd page to install a patched realtek driver, it seemed promising, and I did everything correctly, but all this is happening and I don't think it's working properly or the way it should at all.

If there is any true way I can just get my surround sound working, please just tell me what to do or what to buy! I'll spend $200 if I have to because a similar surround sound system would cost at least $400 and it's definitely worth getting this to work on my PC. If not I'll have to just use it on my Xbox One, ugh.

I've also even tried connecting through HDMI from my GTX 1080, since HDMI can send 5.1 and 7.1, but I don't think my receiver does it properly. Windows only detects 2 channels, or when going through set up, the surround sound options don't play sound through anything but the left and right channels. So perhaps I can get a new receiver? If so I need help getting the right one.

try playing surround sound media on your PC and see if it comes out properly (movies or a demo somewhere, not games)

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

I downloaded the files and and followed instructions, opened Alien: Isolation and from what I can tell it works! I can't believe how easy that was!

This definitely works for now as a temporary solution, maybe someday Microsoft will fix their shit, but for now this is great, thank you!!
