Sorry to break it to you guys but I'm a Mac lover. Macs were the first things that I used. I do use WinPCs a lot an build quite a few for friends and family, but I never do any of my school or my own video editing on WinPCs. Right now I have a WinPC and Mac, and my PC is more powerful and I am forced to use it more often to continue video editing and a faster pace. Thats where a new Hackintosh steps in. I've been planning to build my own Mac for some time now, but I wanted to wait for Mac OSX Mavericks to come out for more support among recent hardware. I've already compiled a parts list (link below). I've come to you guys for help to see if these parts work well together. I know about the Tonymacx86 site but all of their preferred parts are all the same old Gigabyte mobos and low end nVidia cards. I'm trying to go for a more unique Hackintosh, not a gigabyte board in a fractal define r4 with a gtx 660ti card. No offense to anyone out there, the Fractal cases are nice. My PC is in one heheheh. So yeah that link is right below this line of text.

Edit:

  • Oh yeah forgot to say that I'll be dual booting Win8.1 so I can play my games and do things I can't do an Mac, which I think is just AutoCAD but I do that at school)
  • Budget is around $1500 USD, KB-Mouse aren't included in price because I have an Apple keyboard and mouse (not Apple magic crap but a Logitech MX) already and the Mac OS is free :)

FYI Asus boards require DSDT or SSDT for some boards. (some)MSI boards are basically flawless. I am running my hackintosh on a Z77A-GD55. Zero problems.

That for the heads up. Does that makes things more difficult or is it just another step to the process? Plus what GPU do you have because I heard not all cards are compatible out of the box? Some people say to go with a R9 280x/7970 because Mavericks picks it up out of the box with no changes but what of nVidia cards?

It can make it harder but it you read enough and find what you need it shouldn't be to hard. I would still recommend Gigabyte boards and MSI as a secondary.

I'm running a HD 7950 3Gb and it's works but I know that all Nvidia 7xx Series will work, you may just need to install the drivers.

Running mavericks

Thanks man, just put that into a google docs file to save it for later when I start finalizing parts.

Edit:

  • Just found out that GTX 780 works out of the box as well with Mac OSX 10.8.4+

Like I said, it should work perfectly but sometimes you will need to install the graphics drivers.

I would recommend this if you want a easy hackintosh setup http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4490#ov

I was thinking about getting a gigabyte board but it seems like 95% of hackintoshs are using gigabyte boards and I just want something a little more unique. Plus I'm huge Asus fanboy and I've never had anything happen to one of my Asus boards or a build I've done for other people using Asus boards. Practically basing my decision on fanboyism, being an outcast on purpose and personal experience.

I did the same with my MSI board :P Then I would recommend doing some reading up on the board and see if there are any DSDT or SSDT needed and where to get them/or make them.

Nearly all GPUs work, not perfectly but they will output a normal display and newer asus board with UEFI are mostly good
