Cheap server computer

I'm trying to get a motherboard, CPU and memory for a personal server. The main use of it is running QEMU virtual machines that I can connect to through VNC. I don't need a GPU right away because my dad might have an old one I can borrow for a bit and I already have a case and psu. I'm not looking for storage right away because I can temporarily use a live USB and an external hard drive. I'm aiming for under $200 and don't mind going used. Can someone help me find parts?

Yeah, Ryzen 3 looks really nice. Going Ryzen would probably be a bit over my budget but it would be worth it

Virtualbox isn't quite made for VNC but it's great if you're not using VNC to view it.

One of my friend manage to get a win 10 machine working on linux but he did not allow the vm to have access to all the cpu's core.

By the way if the vm is not able to get the 100% cpu use I think it's because linux keep a little margin for him self

Virtualbox has no problems for me. I have tried it on multiple operating systems and it worked best on ubuntu for me. Maybe you need to install vbox guest tools on the guest os.

Yes even wen it was capt in linux the VM whit windows 10 wult only use 50% of the max so if linux gave it 50% and windows was capt at 50% that means it only had 25% of the cpu  also its was a Xeon E5 2670 whit 8 cores and 16 threads. i think i had like 3 or 4 core and 8GB of ram for the VM

Decent price and (or maybe but) it's a complete system, not just parts

Should go bellow 400$

Thats a 4 core no HT xeon so you only have 3 cores to play whit

I read that Ryzen 3 was considered.

It all depends on the budget but for less than 400$ this is hard to beat.

I already have a case and psu anyway so building one at this point would be cheaper. If that wasn't the case, I would totally go for it

Ah okay, Then definetly go with ryzen 5 then. You could even condider the Ryzen 5 1600 as that one has 6C already, but maybe thats over budget. :)

Yeah, something like that. I would prefer to build it though as I bought my case and psu ahead of time because it was the only way I could afford to build the pc. Although I might actually get that and transfer it to my case.

Worst case, I just don't use the case. It's a cheap case anyway. If it's a standard ATX PSU then I will probably get it and use my psu. It's got two 4 core 8 thread processors and I checked eBay, there are plenty of people selling the same computer for around the same price. If I can use my current power supply then I will definitely get it.
