So I'm upgrading from my FX-6350 to a 1600X (I already bought it). I have 3000 Mhz RGB Corsair Memory and an Asus Prime X370-Pro lined up and almost ready to put into place.

One issue: cooling.

I want to overclock the 1600X, and I heard it is super easy. I also heard you don't need an AIO to get the most out of it. So I'm up in the air on what to do.

I really, REALLY like the Kraken X52 (cause the X62 won't fit in my case) due to it's sleek design, decent cooling, and incredible water block. HOWEVER, I heard the pump fails after 6 months generally. Now there is a 6 year warrenty included, but is it worth silent operation, good looks, and the best performance from my CPU v close-to-the-best performance by air cooling for way cheaper?

Just looking for opinions and thoughts mostly. Experience with the Kraken series would also be nice to hear.

While I do not have experience with the Kraken series I have used the Corsair H100i V2 in two builds and I am happy to hear they are staying very cool. You might not like the look of the V2, either the water block or the grey fans, but for 100 bucks, at least where I live, you could get two nice fans for it and still be at the same price. Either than that the Noctua D-15 is great, but it is UUGE and tan. be quiet's Best air cooler is also good, and it is black, but its uuuge, so maybe a 240mm AIO is best, Idk I am rambaling.

I'm using a Cooler Master Vortex Plus carried over from my previous build. I'm O.C'd to 4ghz. It does't get any hotter than 70ish c with everything I can trow at it.

As he is buying a cooler there are better options out there.

Of course there is, I was just pointing out cooling a Ryzen isn't that hard. I've got a nice be quiet low profile on my wish list. haven't needed it though.

Yea, it looks like he wants something with RGB, good cooling capacity, and he could add ML or Ring fans for the same price as the Kraken. (ML fans for me are 25 bucks)

It doesn't matter you missed the point. The OP wanted insight, I gave it to him.

Ya kraken has issues. And water cooling is not a requirement. Although it has its use cases ie small cases, quiet running, Hot environments, because it looks really cool. But water cooling comes with its own issues even the aio ones. If your after RGB, get one made by your mobo manufacturer if possible, or marketed as compatible. Lol my vortex isn't great, but it gets the job done. You should be able to run what ever suits your fancy and your wallet. (and your case)

wait what MOBO manufactur makes AIO's? It seems companys are devided in three main themes: Hardware, like GPU's and MOBO's - Cooling, power supplies, case and accessories - Intel, AMD and Nividia

off the top of my head Gigabyte and Asus with Aorus and Strix, I'm not sure about about Strix though. Either way they all should have a list of peripherals that work with the mobo rgb system.

Edit: No doubt they would rebrand of another manufacturer.  With RGB its software compatibility that the concern, so as long as they pick a good supplier. Think google nexus type deal.

Edit V2: I'm like a dog with a bone. Looks like only Aorus has a full line of branded stuff, if that's what your looking for. Here's the link for coolers:

I know water cooling is not a requirement. Part of my OP was debating between water and air cooling. I asked Paul and Kyle last week on Awesome Hardware, and they said that I don’t need a 240mm radiator to overclock Ryzen. They also mentioned that AIOs do have issues, but have incredible warranties.

Yes, I do like the RGB Kraken, especially with the infinity mirror, but AIOs still will give the best performance no? And does Kraken have an absurdly large amount of issues compared to other AIOs?

i recommend coolermaster and corsair version cause the warranty

Coolermaster has a 1 year warranty on all its products

Corsair has a 5 year warranty on all of its Hydro Series Coolers

NZXT has a 6 year warranty on all of its Kraken Series Coolers

And it looks like if I need space for my future DIMM modules, the Kraken series pumps have thinner tubing compared to Corsair's Hydro series. Is that what you are talking about space wise?
