Hi I’m trying to build my first ever gaming computer and I just wanted some other opinions other then mine. I’m going to be playing triple a tittles and a lot of games. I would like to play on ultra. Could these parts handle that? Is there any part I can downgrade but keep the performance? And also what other types of cases could I use? I also want to overclock safely and start vr soon.

Intel core i7 7700k

Asus rog Maximus ix hero motherboard

Corsair vengeance lpx 16gb

Asus rog strip 1080 8gb oc edition

Corsair h115i liquid cooler

Get an SSD. No need for such an expensive motherboard. What monitor(s) are you using with this system?

please wait until coffeelake comes out, announcement is in 3 days (Aug. 21st) and hopefully the CPUs will be out by mid September. Expect 6 cores on the i7 lineup, won't work with existing 100 or 200 series motherboards.

using most of the parts that you've listed

You don't need such an expensive motherboard unless you really need the extra features that it provides

You might be able to squeeze in a 1080ti

Where is your SSD? Buy a SSD for Windows at least, you can buy an SSD for games too if you don't like waiting

edit:

used most of the parts you've listed, $1550. +$250 or so if you want a 1080ti

really suggest you also get a 144hz 1440p / 4k 60hz monitor, especially if you are going to get the 1080ti

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

You're gpu is unnecessary, a 1060 or 1070 would do fine (providing you're gaming at 1080p, if you are only gaming then the i5 7600k will do just as well as the i7

the difference between an i5 and an i7 is not a lot in games but is noticeable in video editing / heavy multi tasking (or so ive been told ..)

please wait until coffee lake, you get 2 more cores on consumer probably. if not, then just go for a ryzen system (1600 for 6 cores, 1700 for 8 cores) as it will be MUCH better for video editing and rendering

Stick with the 1080 for 144Hz. Or, if you can find a reasonably priced 1070, go for that. For CPU and mobo, wait a few days and get an i7-8700K. Don't spend more than $200 on motherboard though. Don't get Ryzen.

sorry last question. say I had all the parts I listed but cheaper motherboard and the i7 8700k would 750 watts be enough? or would I need more to overclock

No, you'll need a new chipset motherboard(Z370 probably). I imagine you'll be able to find a Strix Z370 board at, or very shortly after launch though.

750W is more than enough for an 8700k, and SLI 1080s overclocked. I'd swap the PSU for a Bitfenix Whisper or EVGA G2/G3 if they're priced better.
