New PC build, Will this work?

I was wondering if these parts are compatible together. I checked PC parts Picker before and it says it's good, but my friends told me that it didn;t work with them one time. Sorry if this is obvious this is my first PC build and thanks for looking!

Did your friend say which parts were incompatible?

I'd get a better PSU, but everything else looks fine. Go for a CX450M or a CX 2017 model (grey label).

Should've been more clear. They said that their particular build didn't work even though it said it was compatible with them.

They're probs worried about the MSI mobo, they typically don't like Ryzen CPUs. This one in particular is fine though. Our own resident mad scientist, @revsilverspine has one and is happy with it.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that mobo because on Amazon it had 3.5 stars out of 5

Should be good, it's the only MSI mobo that works pretty well with Ryzen.

I can fully confirm that the B350 Tomahawk works out of the box with the R5 1600, having the profile pic as solid proof (alongside the now 3 builds that I've done with said combo).

I'm personally using a 2x4 Corsair XMS kit that works just fine at 2933, so the ram isn't an issue either.

Overall the build looks just fine to me and I can't really see any reason for it to not work. Just because someone said it didn't work one time doesn't mean anything in therms of compatibility. It could have been anything from a DOA part to user error.

 

If you do get the Tomahawk I suggest you download both the 1.5 and 1.6 versions of the bios. While 1.6 brings AGESA 10006 to the table, it also changes around a few things related to overclocking, which I did not appreciate (multiplier instead of just inputting frequency and so on, plus it refused to hold even known stable overclocks for some reason. Admittedly, I didn't spend more than an hour or so fiddling with it before going back to v1.5. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, imo)
