Hey guys, sadly I can't take pics atm or really describe my situation that well, but on a bus, I had broken the hinge on my ATH-M40X's and in turn the wiring for the cup without the plug ripped and it fell off. Fast track to a year and 3ish months later and I'm gluing the plastic part in the hinge that came off. My question is that I have a red wire and copper wire both exposed so would I just need to twist together the corresponding wires to each color coded counterpart on the wiring by the headband and put some electrical tape on it or would I need to solder it together and use heat shrink?

The wires have an enamel coating (the red is the enamel, and the copper wire has a clear enamel over it) so twisting them together will not work - at all. You need to solder and heatshrink them at the very least, if you want them to last at all.

No problem.

The most common way to remove enamel is to either burn it off, or scrape it off with sandpaper. Be aware that it will likely be a total pain to solder that wire again, and it might take quite a few tries to get a good, solid connection made.

Would burning it off be like putting the flame of a lighter close to it for a while or would it be easier to just sand it?

lighter straight onto the wire, and clean up with emery board. solder with moderate to high heat quickly, longer you spend making the joint the more insulation that'll burn up the wires, if you take stupidly long there's a change you'll short them out up the cable pair somewhere.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

What is emery board and where can I get it?

Like a nail file board, chemist, drugstore etc. bit of 2500 wet/dry sandpaper works as well.

Your local drug store: https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/revlon-compact-emery-boards-33100/ID=prod10043-product

Emery cloth is basically just sandpaper that's backed with cloth instead of paper. Emery boards, as far as I've experienced tend to have some kind of foam between the surfaces, but it's basically just sandpaper with some kind of backing that's more durable than paper.

I have 1000 grit sand paper and I'm on a budget. Would this work fine or do I need to get 2500 grit sandpaper or the emery stuff?

1000 grit will probably work fine. Just be careful to be gentle, as you might sand right through the wire if you press too hard.

can't afford a buck?

yea probably, fine grade just gets more crap out of the wire and give a cleaner joint.

Haha, I just spent all my money buying ryzen and watercooling parts so right now I'm thinking to just use some left over sandpaper I have and use my uncle's soldering iron.
