Hello everyone!

I just purchased an IBM server machine, specifically the X3650 M3.

The reason for the purchase was to run it as a streaming rig, put a PCIe capture card in it and use the two X5670s in it to encode into x264.

However what I failed to acknowledge was the fact that OBS does need a decent graphics card in order to process all the graphics going into the stream. and since the server does not have a PCIe x16 slot , only x8.

Here I am standing with a question, either I just purchase a glorified paperweight that I have no use for since I can't run a decent graphics card in it, or is there a solution to this situation?

Any input greatly appreciated!

Thanks Ahead,

cyph0rg.

I'm assuming you're using a capture card to get the graphics to your ibm?

And also according to this:

You have a two riser slots so you will probably need something like this:

right?

There's also this method of dual pc streaming without a capture card. (Requires a crossover ethernet cable or a network switch/router)

I already did the 2 PC Stream without a capture card, works okay, I set it up through my switch and router. But looking for something more reliable. So yeah, planning to purchase a capture card.

However whenever I run OBS, and start loading web-objects or media files into it my FPS drops drastically from a steady flowing 60 down to about 10-20 fps..

I asked around the OBS community and they're saying it's mainly due to the fact the onboard graphics are cr*p..

So basically I'm looking for some sort of a graphics card that's powerful enough to run OBS smoothly and without hiccups, but nothing to fancy as I have a *very* limited budget at the moment after the server purchase and the capture card *planned* purchase.

Also, something like what you suggested with the Supermicro riser card would be perfect, but from what I can see there's not enough clearance as most graphics cards are 2 slot designed. Also, graphics card can't have more than 1x6-pin power into it, since it's a server and I get it only from the motherboard, and it only has the one..

please use quotes so that the person you are refering to knows that you responded to them.

Would this have any clearance issues?

Okay, will to ^_^.

And yes, I believe it will, basically the riser board I have in there is a two slot, and for a dual slot graphics card to go in, it would have to sit it the top one [theoretically]..
