monitor 144hz Is it possible

Im new to this kind of stuff but, I want to get a  144hz monitor but i don't really get 144 fps all time.

Pretty sure 144Hz works as long as you get 60+ FPS

I believe the number before the Hz just means what's the maximum FPS it shows
