Hello there! I´ve been a frequent on these forums, but never had anything exciting to post!

Now though, as it´s a summer break from school (starting studies of network design and basic gamedesign this fall), and I got 2 jobs bringing in dem sicc moneys right now, I thought it was time to upgrade my system for the first time in a few years!

Started out my PCMR life with a shotty laptop, then around 4-5 years ago, I bought a prebuild (shame)! Nothing good at all really, but I was dirt poor and eh, didn´t play anything that needed anything amazing. Had a GTX 650 graphics card, an I3 processor that is dying out insanely fast, no SSD, stock cooler, basically a starter package.

Later upgraded graphics card to a gtx 970 for the sole reason that it was on sale.

Now though, when I know atleast a little bit more, upgrade time!

Parts for it started arriving a few days ago, have to buy everything seperatly as paychecks come irregularly in irregular amounts.

I decided a relatively long time ago to go with the Corsair Graphite 760T (white version), because it simply looked amazing. Also thought that "Hey, that´s Corsair, they know what they´re doing!".

I was leaning towards the "new" Corsair 570x, but mjeh, felt like a bit much for my personal taste.

I´ve never tried custom watercooling, so felt best to go with a closed water loop, so I went with the Corsair h100I V2.

I didn´t go with a fancy aircooler because let´s face it, they are bulky beasts that can easily ruin a sleek look in a PC, and as the case is almost completely visible and I´m going to have the PC sitting on my desk in plain view, so aircooler was thrown out of the picture.

The motherboard I went for was the Asus ROG Strix Z270E. Partially because it looks amazing, and partially because I want to have the ability to overclock. And to be completely honest, I bought it only because I remembered the other day that "oh right, I need a motherboard", went in to a whatever a PC components store is called in english, looked around a bit and in 5 fast minutes I bought it.

That´s all the parts I have for now, but CPU and PSU is most probably being bought next week with the next paycheck.

PSU is most probably going to be a Corsair one, I´ve heard only great things about them. Also has to be fully modular, because I hate cables just hanging around, doing no good.

CPU is (from the help of this very forum 4 hours ago) most probably going to be an Intel I5 7600K.

RAM is still to be determined, but I´m going for 16GB, 8 is probably going to be enough, but just in case something demanding comes up, I want to be prepared.

Going to take the secondary HDD from my current PC, a 1TB seagate drive as a "general storage" drive, then getting a 128GB SSD as boot drive.

Sorry for the shoddy quality of the picture, only camera around was my Ipad, and lightning is not exactly made for photography.

Will be uploading more pics and updating the build as it goes along!

Congratulations on the upgrade! Also a 128gb SSD is going to fill up fast and I suggest going for something in the 250gb range if you can swing it.

Thanks you!

Ye, I´ve heard alot about this, which is why I´m taking my backup HDD from old PC and putting it as common storage in the new PC, might do the trick.

Either way, I´m starting with 128gb and if I need more space in a few months, I´ll go for a 250gb one.

Thanks!

Aight boyos, some of the last parts arrived!

I got the CPU and RAM today, windows as well.

Sadly, I forgot to include Windows in my price calculations, so SSD is coming in 2 weeks, as well as a new PSU.

Will start assembling after a bit of food, so will be posting pictures as it comes along tonight!

So.

This was no fun day at all.

I got everything connected, cpu in, the corsair hydro connected, everything.

Cables were still a mess, always leave those out hanging until I can confirm everything is working.

Everything worked in the pre-build in check, (I did like Linus always says, test bench on mobo box and everything, everything worked.

Then the first boot up, to see if everything still worked.

Nothing.

Absolutely nothing.

I kept calm at first, thinking that I forgot a cable or some stupid thing, but no, triple checked everything.

Thought maybe I connected IO to wrong pins, but no.

Consulted LTTs help department, and after about like 2.5 hours of panic and sweating that I broke the PSU or mobo or something, I got a tip from a friend.

Try shorting the pwr on manually.

Poof, everything jumped to life, RAM light, fans, pump, everything.

Sadly, I will not post a picture of the build finished today, I´ll have to call support tomorrow and see what can be done.

It´s a chassi fault, and since I had to specially order the chassi from america to Sweden, it does not look good in my mind, nor on my kitchen table.

Put a volt meter on the switch and see if the switch works if it does check each wire to make sure there isn't a break in one of the 2 wires.

Will do that, sadly I gotta go to work first ://

Awesome!

Looks pretty clean to me. The only thing that bothers me is the fan cables coming from the front over the drive bay.

And that the GPU doesn't have a backplate.. Like mine :(

Otherwise you seem to have made a great job keeping everything tidy and clean, well done! :D

  • 5 weeks later...

Don´t know if anyone will read this still, since it actually was a month ago or something that I made this post, but still!

Progress has been done!

I now have a 3rd harddrive, a M.2 SSD, 128gb. Don´t know why I got it, but I got it!

Also have new fans lying and waiting for me to install them, just waiting for an internal fan hub to arrive. Tasty fans as well, Corsair ML120 PRO, expensive buggers

The biggest news (for me) is that it is now also overclocked! It´s now steady at 4800 MHz, at ~70 degrees celcius.

Will make a new post with tasty looking pictures at a LAN in a week
