Hello there,

my mother uses this external seagate SRD001 drive, but recently it stopped working. We can hear the disc spinning in the external drive but the pc is not recognising the drive.
The fact that the light on the Seagate doesn't turn on should also be noted. Would this be a scratch on the disc or is this another problem? Can we also resolve this problem?

With kind regards,
Ucthar

If you can hear the disc spinning, but there's no indicator light, then my best guess is that it's only receiving power and not making a data connection.

You could try a different cable, or you could take it apart and try it in a desktop. (Most portable hard drives are just enclosures around a standard 2.5" SATA drive that you can take out and plug into something else.
