Inspiron 15 5000 Gaming (5577) specs look good on paper, but it uses a low quality TN display with poor contrast and viewing angles, which is certainly very poor for a laptop costing this much I would say. Dell's been doing this in a number of their new models, and some youtube reviewers have been calling it things like "the worst cost-cutting measure". Screens like this make no sense in laptops in this price bracket. It looks like the left side of this photo: http://imgur.com/Sajajqc.jpg -- I wouldn't choose this laptop unless you're going to DIY-replace the display, and even then I wouldn't choose it unless you get a cheaper one where a DIY screen upgrade won't put the laptop over $1200.

If you would like the 512GB SSD, here's what I'd do.

- Get this: http://www.dell.com/en-us/member/shop/productdetails/inspiron-15-7567-laptop/fncwf512s (pick the IPS option, it's not included by default on this model at the moment)

- Get a 512GB M.2 2280 SSD, add it to the empty slot, and re-install the OS on it. Or transfer it.

- EDIT: Or get the 5577 on Amazon with the 512GB SSD fir $999, and DIY-replace the screen.

Or:

https://www.amazon.com/Eluktronics-N850HK1-Premium-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B01N7YTLD0/

- Less-good battery life but even better display.

If 256GB SSD (+ ability to add secondary storage drive) is fine, the IPS+1050Ti+256GB Inspiron 7567:

http://www.dell.com/en-us/member/shop/productdetails/inspiron-15-7567-laptop/fncwf514s

- For gaming you don't need the 7700HQ in most cases on this level of GPU.

For slightly over your budget with the GTX 1060, great displays, and great build quality:

Clevo P650HP6 (Also 512GB SSD. G-Sync configurable here but it costs more.)

- MSI GT62VR (GT62VR is great, GE62VR is meh, and GP62MVR has a poor display. MSI is 2016/2017's biggest mixed bag.)

For lower with still a GTX 1060 and a great display,

- Sager and Prostar versions of this laptop to my understanding use a 45% NTSC color gamut IPS display, whereas Eluktronics uses 72%, which is why I link Eluktronics.

I have the same question. I'm open for the best under $1500. Currently, have an eye on Asus ROG GL502VM. But Asus has reputation for bad laptop cooling. Other than that I really like to get that laptop.
