Can anyone recommend any known good information (and recent/relevent) about setting up a web cache and steam cache server/proxy?

I tried setting one up years ago with windows, but windows is a pain.

I'm a novice linux user. i have dabbled with it before, but only understand some basics. I expect to run this through linux as googling 'steam cache' only shows doing it through linux.

thoughts? specs? guides? recommendations?

Will be running it as a VM on a Sun microsystems 1U server. (ESXi v6) currently the only vm running on it.

knowledgeable help is appreciated! thanks.

Note: i'd hope other users could use this thread as a guide to do this themselves.

INTERNET/MODEM->WEB/STEAM CACHE (PROXY)-> CLIENT MACHINES     |||    this not a VPN.

1 power user (myself) and 3 other general-use clients on the network.

several 2TB drives for caching available in the unit. (i don't expect to need more than one 2TB drive) [[I do NOT want to cache streaming video, which i don't expect it to do anyway]]

Current VM is running Kali linux light.
