Hello,

Guys, I need your advice.

Last week, after a thunderstorm, my mobo (an Asus x99-a) got fried. Luckily it didn't kill anything else.

The question is, would it be wise to upgrade the platform, mobo and processor to a newer series or just change the mobo to, let's say a Asus x99-A II?

My current setup was:

Asus X99-A

5820k @ 4.2 with Evo 212

16GB hyperx ddr4@2133mhz

Asus 1070 GTX strix

Also, the Asus x99-A II is now around 240$. If you would recommend an upgrade, what would you suggest for mobo and processor?

Thank you.

Were you happy with performance from your rig? If yes, then just buy new motherboard and be happy with it.

If you were looking at upgrading already, then buy new motherboard + CPU. But that will cost you a bit more.

Then again X99 is kinda dead platform ...

240$ for X99? In EU you can get X99 motherboards for less than 200€, so in US it should be less than 200$.

If that would happen to me, I would just sell CPU, and buy new one + new motherboard.

Buy X99 mobo again.

Like every extreme platform, from X58 to X79, the mobos go up SHARPLY in price as used Xeons flood the market from decommissioned servers.

In a couple years mobos will be $350+ and you can pick up 8 and 12 cores for $80, just like X79.

idk
