Neither. Some Kingston SSDs are more reliable than some SanDisk SSDs and some SanDisk SSDs are more reliable than some Kingston SSDs. You need to compare drive models, not companies.

It's a bit like asking whether Audi or BMW make faster cars, it really depends on the model, not the company making it.

Ok, I'm just looking at a couple of small SSDs for my laptop.  There's a SanDisk SSD Plus 120GB for $55, and a Kingston SSDNow UV400 120GB for $60.  Which one?

In terms of reliability, they should be pretty much the same. Even some of the worst SSDs can take a lot before they die (in terms of writes) and components failing is uncommon among pretty much all SSDs that are from a known brand.

I believe the UV400 is faster than the SSD Plus, so I'd go for that one, though neither is a bad choice.

There is one sleep mode that the UV400 doesnt support. Get the Sk Hynix SL308 or the Crucial Mx300 for a budget SSD.

Does SSD Plus support the sleep mode that you speak of?

Yea but it is a pretty bad ssd. Look at @Droidbot SSD tier list

I am aware of that.  Unfortunately, it appears that the SSD Plus is my only option right now.  Others are a bit too expensive.

Anyway, my 256GB SSD is running out of space, and I need more storage (but not a lot more).  Currently, my options are the SanDisk 120GB ($55), a Toshiba 500GB 5400rpm HDD ($43), and a HGST 500GB 7200rpm HDD ($53).  What would you guys recommend?

Would not recommend Kingston SSD's seen too many fail within the first and second year of use. Had 3 Kingston Data traveler USB3.0 drives fail in a period of 3 months. Unless you only want to use your PC for 1 year lol... Sandisk SSD I have no experience with so can't really comment..
