Build Plan, Questions

Zigon

Hi

Am looking at building a new PC for around ~2000 dollars $AUD (including a monitor).

I mainly do a little gaming, 3d modeling/rendering as well as programming.

Build that I am looking at, it linked below,

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/phfbgL

The current ram I am looking at is Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200

I would just like to make sure that it is compatible with the build. On Corsair's website, it isn't listed under the ryzen compatible memory section, but in the motherboard(MSI - X370 GAMING PRO CARBON) specifications, it says it is compatible??

Thanks in advance :)

Hey,

Often PC Part Picker will tell you if items are not compatible and if there is a problem it is highly likely that you would be able to return it. Could I ask as to why you want Win 10 Pro as you could save some money on that and then spend said money on a different GPU with a greater amount of CUDA cores, therefore helping in your rendering applications, provided they support this.

Hope this helps,

TT

What programs do you use for 3D modeling and rendering?

Just as a note, you might want to quote people in the future, or they might not know you replied! :)

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Mainly blender for now, so GPUs can be fully utilized

Hey,

That is fair enough, however, I would recommend that if you have Pro on another device, you could encrypt them from there, you could also use other encryption services, for example, sandisk have their own system and so you could use something like that, you could also use something like a cloud storage.

In terms of virtualization, I don't know much about that, however I would think the better card will help you more than this due to the extra cores.

Hope this helps,

Oh ok, I was mainly asking since a lot of 3D modeling apps are quite single threaded so Ryzen might not be the best choice but if it's blender Ryzen is definitely the best choice.

If that's the case my only suggestion is maybe get a different psu. This one is cheaper and better than the one you had. Everything else looks great.

Unfortunately, my normal PC parts supplier doesn't stock that psu. One other supplier does have it but the cost is much greater.

Also as I am in Australia, if I was to get it from Amazon or NewEgg, the shipping cost negates any savings

In that case, I have zero suggestions :P

Corsair is not very good at maintaining memory QVL lists. Fortunately MSI keeps good lists. Since the memory, CMK16GX4M2B3200C16, is on the motherboard's memory QVL you can feel confident that the kit will work. Note though that the motherboard currently only supports these modules in two DIMM slots. This means that any memory upgrade will require replacing the memory, not simply adding a second kit.

Unless there are features in Windows 10 Pro that you need, (e.g. Bitlocker), you will be fine with the standard version. However, the Windows 10 OEM license does not allow use in DIY builds. Windows 10 Home (32/64-bit) is the correct version for DIY builds.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
