If you need a good WIFI card have a look for the TP link N900, its a great value card and I have been using one for 3 years and have had no issues in multiple operating systems, and its only £40.

I am always whery of refused things, for electronics its rear to see them work again once they have died, mechanical stuff can be restored but electronics not so much.

Just what ever you do don't buy a cheap USB adapter…..

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Would a refurbished wifi card be good? If not, what problems could I run into?

Theres a really good deal on the archer t9e on newegg btw.

As long as the building you live in has relatively new electrical circuitry, you could also consider a powerline adapter . I personally use this and it works great for me. It only adds 4ms latency compared to being plugged in directly to my router, and it provides a much more stable connection than wifi does.
