Ubiquiti Edgeswitch ES-16-XG vs US-16-XG? I have an ER-X & TOUGHSwitch

bsodmike

Hi all,

Right now, my network comprises of:

1. EdgeRouter-X (ER-X) which is a 5-port router, that's pretty excellent, for around $50.  It supports 24v 0.5A Passive PoE (Ubiquity specific), which I plan to use with an injector to 2x UAP-AC-LITE units.

2. TOUGHSwitch 5-Port (TS-5-POE) - This can also power PoE devices and is a Layer-2 managed switch.

I want to upgrade part of my network to 10G, and for this I want to purchase this ES-16-XG

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1267265-REG/ubiquiti_networks_es_16_xg_edgeswitch_16_10g.html

However, I've also started running a UniFi Cloud Controller on my primary local linux server to manage the UAP-AC-LITE units for Wifi around the house.  It therefore seems like I should instead consider the https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1318635-REG/ubiquiti_networks_us_16_xg_unifi_switch_12xsfp.html as this would allow me to then manage that also via the UniFi controller.

In either scenario - I plan to connect my network like this:

ISP Router ->----- ER-X ----> TOUGHSwitch ------> ES/US-16-XG (into one of the RJ45 ports, set as 1G)

OR-

ISP Router ->----- ER-X ----> ES/US-16-XG (into one of the RJ45 ports, set as 1G)

This way the 10G network also gets internet connectivity.

Thoughts??
