Hello everyone, new to the forum and i was hoping i could get some help with a temperature problem i am having with my 970 strix. I had it runing on my previous motherboard at 39-40 celsius idle and maxed out at 74. That was on Asus M5A97 rev 2.0 motherboard. Today i swaped my mobo to an Gigabyte GA-990FX gaming rev. 1.0. I reinstaled windows and instantly noticed idle temps standing at 50 celsius. Didnt give it much notice, but then i cranked up Furmark strees test and the fans instantly jumped to 100%, the temp reached 91 celsius, when i chickened out and stopped the test.

Did anyone have similar problems or knows a solution to this?

My specs:

Amd fx8350 stock 4.0

8gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz

Gigabyte ga-990fx gaming

Strix gtx970 4gb stock oc

120 ssd

1tb seagate baracude

750w power supply

(Cpu is idling at about 35 celsius with hyper 212 cooler)

How old is the 970? It could need a good HSF cleanout, and possibly even replace the thermal paste. Even with thermal grizzly conductonaut (liquid metal) my 970s will run at around 80-82 celcius when stress tested, and even in some games. 90+ is too hot.

Try removing and reseating the video card, and are you using the same power plugs as you did for the Asus board?

Have you overclocked the CPU on the new motherboard as it may have altered the bus speeds?

I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere.

First of all thank you both for the fast replies. No the cpu wasnt overclocked the only thing i did was disable turbo boost and cool n quiet and c6. Secondly this literaly happened from yesterday to today. The fans are hooked to molex so there is no change there. The gpu is about a year old , and cleaned regularly so there is no spec of dust on the heatsink. As i said it worked normaly yesterday, i just swaped the mobo, reinstaled windows and then i noticed the temps change
