I have a Raidmax 1000 watt power supply and am going to make a build for a friend it must be under 1200. here is my current list https://pcpartpicker.com/user/bingobird/saved/YXvpgs

Reply telling me what you think of it. I know the GTX 1080 in the build is overkill for 1080p 60fps gaming but I want the build to be future proof. I plan to overclock because the H5 Ultimate is a very good cooler

R5 instead of i5, would also add an SSD (1080 is a bit overkill, but you dont really have any other mid range options at this time so it will last a long while before before they upgrade).

The i5 is better in my friends to use case solely for the better single threaded performance which will help in games also with my cooler I will have to wait weeks to get a proper bracket for use with the 1600x

The i5 has slightly better averages in some games  (Not all), but the R5 also has better 1% lows and framer times so its overall going to be better. The stock cooler that comes with Ryzen is also pretty good, can OC with it (Will work fine until a bracket arrives).

But I can overclock the I5 7600k a lot farther than the R5 1600.

Not really, perhaps 800MHz or so. As I said, will beat out in averages for some games slightly, but overall they still trade there and Ryzen has better minimums and frame times.

In the linuses video, the 1600x only matches/overtakes the 7600k when overclocked to 4.0ghz and still the 7600k beats the average and minimum more often than not. not only do Intel chips have better clock speeds, they also have a nine percent higher IPC (Instructions per clock) which helps in single threaded performance. In GTA 5 a game my friend plays, the 7600k fares better. The 7600k overclocked to 4.5 GHz would crush the RYZEN every time (in games). sry if I'm being too aggressive
