I just got a 144hz 1080p monitor and am absolutely loving it. So many headshots lol. One thing I noticed is that my temperatures have increased fairly significantly while gaming to about 70C on the 7700k and 80C on the GTX 1070. I think I'm going to delid the CPU. Just wondering if such a temperature increase is typical when upgrading to a higher refresh rate monitor?

No, it just provides video signal, monitor is separate in terms of how many frames it can display (Unless you had VSync on before, that would limit it).

I believe I did have vsync or some form of FPS limitation on before

if you have your fps for example locked at 60 and you buy a bigger faster screen maybe your gpu will need to work a litle harder to stay on the same fps and as result it might increase the gpu's temps (i did not test this this is just how i think it would work)

Vsync or whatever you had most likely limited it to 60fps, which in most games a 1070 can do easily, now you're running 144hz though the 1070 is having to work harder and will most likely be at 100% usage to get to, or as close as it can to 144fps, depending on the game and settings.
