Memory Compatibility Questions (Ryzen)

Go to solution Solved by dr lyo,

The OC next to the RAM speed means that the memory controller is overclocked when using memory at those speeds or higher.

Yes the memory is compatible.

Ryzen likes fast memory so the faster stuff helps.

I have never used RAM from Team but I have seen a few reviews of people complaining about the T-Force Dark saying it caused the Memory Management Bluescreen to pop up all the time, however, this may be limited to a few sticks and your experience will differ but if RAM from someone like Corsair is around the same price and same speeds and amount then I'd go with them instead

I am going to be building a new ryzen pc soon, and I've found the CPU, memory, and motherboard that I like.

Future build specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 1600

Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming 3 (B350 chipset)

Corsair Vengeance LPX ddr4 3000MHz

On the motherboard's spec sheet it says that it supports ddr4 ram of 2133, 2400, 2667, 2933, and 3200MHz. However, on the product page, ( https://m.newegg.com/products/N82E16813128991/specs ) it has an (O.C) next to the 2933 and 3200.

-Does this mean it only supports these frequencies if the ram is overclocked?

Is the ram compatible with the motherboard?

-If it is, will the ram be underclocked to 2933, overclocked to 3200, or will it just stay at 3000MHz?

-What are your thoughts on ram from Team? Specifically, Team T-Force Dark.

-Should I get 8 or 16GB of ram for gaming/streaming at the same time and light video editing/transcoding?

-Or, I am I just going about this the wrong way, and the R5 1600 cannot take advantage of ram above, say, 2667MHz? (Essentially, maximum supported memory speed)

Now, this isn't my first time working in and replacing parts inside a computer, but it is my first time building a computer from scratch. I'm doing this upgrade because I kinda needed it sooner or later; I can't do much livestreaming while playing something like GTA 5 on a Core 2 Quad. If you have hardware suggestions, keep in mind that I have a very tight budget. Thanks!

Yep, an 8GB kit from Team was $60, while it was $70 from Corsair, a small hit I'm willing to take for a bit better quality. The thing that was trying to tip me over the edge was that the Team ram had an awesome red/black style, while Corsair has an all-black heat spreader and a sticker with a bit of yellow on it.

Yeah, the Team kit looks cool, I am looking at getting a set of Patriot RAM for my Ryzen upgrade which even say in the title of them Ryzen compatible. Same speed as the Team and Corsair kits, just more at $73 on newegg.
