Hey guys,

I'm helping my friend make his set up for his PC and I've been having problems with using the 8350 as it apparently is not compatible with most of the motherboards I've tried using on PCPartPicker. So, I would like help on picking a motherboard (please answer seriously, I know the 8350 isn't as good as the new Ryzen CPU's but I have to stick with this CPU for reasons)

Thanks

Asus M5a97 R2.0

Asus m5a97 EVO r2.0, handles the 8350 much better. Although if you have the money and are planning to overclock you should really get a Sabertooth 990fx r2.0 or a Crosshair V Formula-Z.

What features do you require on the mobo and what size?

Sorry for the late reply but all I really need is 4 ram slots and the rest can be basic (gpu, cpu, usb, etc)

Did you ever try using the Asus M5a97 R2.0? This is what I used to build my FX-8320 build back in the day. It's a solid motherboard for the price paired with a Hyper 212 Evo.

Hey, sorry for the late reply but I still get the same compatibility error when I try and use this motherboard, here's a gyazo of it

The motherboards that you see on the shelves in the store will already have the base bios flash that supports the 8350. I had this board and the 8320 and still flashed to the new bios. The good thing with these motherboards is that there's a bios flashback option where the motherboard reads from the USB drive and flashes the BIOS. You could try that method, but the CPU should work out of the box with the motherboard I've suggested. You could also go with the EVO motherboard that was recommended by @Kenrou

Like others have said, the boards will work. PC part picker informs you that some may need a bios update to support the 83xx chips but most are good. If you are getting a board for an 8350 this late in the game, look for something with some more modern features like M.2 for a little longer life since you won't have a CPU upgrade path with the board. The 970 Pro gaming/aura is the cheapest out there with M.2 and is around $100 USD.

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe
