Hey,

my i7 4790k has always been running at hot temperatures with the H100i installed i had 60°C idle and up to 90°C under load

which is way too high

but today after i tried to fix the high temps by cleaning my pc & exchanging the thermal paste

after i was done with doing so i still had the same temps so i checked if everything was in place

the weird thing was after i was done with it the cpu reached temps of 100°C under idle but the Pump

of the watercooler showed that it was running at full speed

could it be that the pump is broken but still running?

thx in advance for all replies

As this has taken place after you have cleaned the PC, I guess it must have something to do with that

Are all fans attached? Are they spinning?

Is the cooler attached with enough pressure?

Coolers can require over 60N of force in order to cool properly.

Try tightening the screws, if you think they are too tight loosen them after as the cooling performance does not drop as significantly as if it had not been tightened previously.

im sure that i installed it in the correct way and i think that the pump is not working because when i touch the waterpipe only about 5cm away from the cooler its cold but about 2cm away from it its pretty warm

Can you hear vibrations from the motor?

Carefully, try unplug the pump while the computer is running and listen for a change in sound. If there isn't a change the pump is probably dead.

That is strange, my i5 4690k only heats up to  a maximum 70C on the stock cooler even under P95. I can still touch the metal cooler for a second or two without burning myself

can you please check the temp of the watercooler itself under full load?

corsair link should show the temperature

Can you hear a high pitched whine coming from the pump, my only explanation could be that the pump blade has become disconnected from the motor and so the motor is spinning but not the blade, so no water is moved and you get your high temperatures.

Do you have a section where you can observe water movement?

If the cooler is not a sealed unit and can be opened you could remove the cooler, take off a pipe and run the motor away from the PC, seeing if there is water movement.
