Won't post after gpu installation

I tried connecting the GPU to the monitor but it doesn't post still but when I took it out it started up no problem any other ideas?

yes, this was used, the only way I can tell if its working is the fact that the fans are spinning. another question, (may sound dumb) do i need both my mobo and GPU connected to my monitor?

Lol no like I said the Mobo video ports get blocked when you put a gpu in

You need just one cable. Unless you are running some insane scenario like 8K monitor with 2 Display Port 1.3 cables. Normally you just need 1 video cable from your graphics card to your monitor. Perhaps you could try a different cable type? (for example if you are using HDMI right now, try connecting DVI-D or anything else that both your card and your monitor are able to support)
