I'm planning on getting a new rig cause my current one is just terrible.

I upgraded the GPU 2 years ago to an Asus GTX 560 DirectCU,got more RAM(4GB DDR2 in total) and that's pretty much what I've done to it.

My CPU, an AMD Athlon x2 5000+ @ 2.6GHz has really started to show off its age this year,my hard drive almost failed on me,but fortunately it's still working ATM.

So, I'll get a total overhaul : a new case, mobo, CPU , RAM, etc.

I wonder if I should upgrade my GPU ,but I don't know how well it handles in some games because I'm, most of the time, CPU bound. What I think I should do is to get everything except the GPU now and when the Nvidia 8xx series comes out, to upgrade my GPU.Is it a good ideea?

I play games(LoL,PS2,BF and upcoming games) and do some light photo and video editing(nothing crazy).

i5 4670k @ 4.2GHz (Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo); ASrock Z87 EXTREME4; 8GB Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 RAM @ 2133MHz; Asus DirectCU GTX 560; Super Flower Golden King 550 Platinum PSU;1TB Seagate Barracuda;Corsair 200r case.

Upgrade your other parts first and see if you still need to upgrade for the games you play, if you do maybe get a 280x or 770 if you want nvidias features.

also what parts will you be getting?

current system:  i5 2500k @4.5ghz cooled by antec 620 - asrock z77 extreme 4 - 8gb corsair RAM - MSI Twin Frorz 7950 in crossfire - XFX 850w  - Fractal design R4 - samsung 840 120gb ssd - 500gb wd blue hdd - 1440p korean qnix monitor (love it!)

Might want to look for a second 560 to go SLI, those cards are pretty beast.

The worst advice ever, never SLI old low end stuff. What's the budget for GPU upgrade?

My rig: CPU: Intel core i5 4670K MoBo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 2x4GB 1600mhz CL9 GPU: EVGA GTX780 SC ACX SSD: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 256GBHDD: Western Digital RED 2TB PSU: FSP Aurum CM 750W Case: Cooler Master HAF XM OS: Windows 8 Pro

Since when is finding used cards for cheap as shit a bad advice to get better performance ?.  You realize not everyone have a lot of money to spend on pc parts.

Do you realize that he would be heavily VRAM bottlenecked and SLI wouldn't scale properly because nobody pays attention to those cards anymore?

I know a friend that runs asus DC2 560ti in sli and as far as i know it works great at 1080p,

as far as i know those 560's are 2gb models.

Define "great", if he sold it and bought a nicer single GPU, he would then have godly performance, zero stutter, less heat and since it's Fermi he would save a lot on his power bill with Kepler and probably even more if he's eager to wait for Maxwell.

My advice to the OP: Put it into the new system and see how it performs, if it's good enough for you, stick with it until Maxwell and then upgrade, if you're still getting horrible FPS with it, upgrade right from the bat, because the bottleneck would cause your investment to be a waste of money, because you can't use it properly. What's the budget?

That's what I was planning to do.Get a new system and see how it currently performs at 1050p,cause I don't have a 1080p monitor and I'd rather wait for the prices of 1440p to come down and upgrade later.

But I don't know what to get for the cpu/mobo yet.I'd get an i5 4670k and a 150-ish z87 mobo(is the MSI z87-g45 a good choice?),but I could save some money and get a fx 8350 and an AM3+ socket mobo.

I don't have a strict budget.I'll save around 250-300$ on the new GPU.It's just a normal mid-range rig.

I think I'll go with the Fractal Design Arc Midi r2 for the case,or maybe a Define R4.I still haven't made up my mind. That's around $110.

Any good options for a PSU?I literally don't know what PSU to get.Probably around $75.

Let's say I go with the i5 which is around $240, and with a $150 mobo.

A 1TB HDD should be around $70, and I'll get a 120GB SSD as a boot drive(any suggestions here?).

As far as a CPU cooler, I have no ideea either.

8GB of DDR3 RAM,I don't need more and I can always upgrade later.DDR4 should come out next year but is it really that big of a deal in terms of real-world performance?

That should be around $800,maybe a little bit more. And then I'll see how the system performs. If the GPU needs an upgrade(which I doubt, cause I have a 1050p monitor ) then I'll see what has to be done.

I won't go with another SLI card cause Fermi is kinda outdated and SLI doesn't scale that well + not enough VRAM.I'll wait and see how the next-gen 860 performs, and get either an r9 280x or an 860/770(if the price drops low enough,if it doesn't then a 760).So,the budget is like ~$1200.

I have an Asus 560 DirectCU.DirectCU as in one fan,not two,and a non Ti-version,with 1GB of GDDR5 RAM.

I want to finally be able to play Planetside 2 at some normal settings(not everything turned off or the lowest possible).Right now I get 15fps at 720p,in Esamir just walking around, and about 5FPS in zergs. Not to mention CTD every 5 mins(outofmemory).Maybe some BF4 too.

You better make a thread in New builds and planning, people will make you whole builds there, for the GPU I suggest R9 280X.
