Basically, I had a water-cooled setup, with an ax1200 gold psu with custom red individually braided cables.  Out of no where the switch suddenly turns defective, I have to take my whole build apart and send the PSU back for replacement.

2 weeks later I receive a new AX1200i, this is great, but I only want to use custom red cables.

Am i right in saying I can't use my ax1200 cables in my ax1200i, if so do I have to buy new ones?

i don't understand why you wouldn't be able to use the old cables?

I would understand if you thought the cable were poor quality and therefore have reduced efficiency but this is a corsair psu.

There is no reason why you wouldn't be able to use the old cables.

Thanks for the reply, but on the cables they have written for ax1200's only and on the ax1200i they say for ax1200i's only etc.

that is just a safety specification, the only difference between the two psu you have mentioned is efficiency and maybe a few new features. there is absolutely no reason to even think twice before reusing the cables.

the cables themselves are not technically any different, they even have the same number of each connector ports. maybe the i variant should have an extra port for corsair link, i am not sure on that one though.

@jackjayatherton

The original AX1200 uses its own original pin-out, when Corsair first went with Flextronic to have their PSU made. However, the releases afterwards were implemented with the current pinout standard Type-3 for all new PSUs regardless of who makes it (Seasonic, Hipro, Great Wall, Channel Well Tech, and Flextronic) and the AX1200i is one of the PSU that has this pinout type.

So no, the cables you got for the AX1200 are not compatible with the AXi replacement you had gotten.
