Hudson's Bay Co. will lay off 265 people, mainly at headquarters and in corporate functions across the retailer, as part of its streamlining after buying Saks Inc.

Most of the layoffs, which happened this week, were in Toronto and New York. Other layoffs took place across North America.

The layoffs were in corporate functions such as IT, human resources and digital.

The company also announced a restructuring of North American operations that is expected to generate $75 million in cost savings annually.

The company has lost so much ground with consumers -- and financial strength as a result -- that one of the few analysts still covering it predicted earlier this month that Sears may face a "liquidity event" later this year. The management of Sears as a retail operation has been so dismal that it raises questions about what Lampert, a financier, has had in mind for the business. Many shoppers would argue that revitalizing the stores hasn't been one of them.

** I haven't bought anything from these 2 stores in decades. I tried to buy Big & Tall clothing, but nothing has appealed to me in fashion nor price. Mainly because I think they only go up to 3XL and I am a 4XL Tall. Sears is good for smaller towns because they have the catalogue stores. But I think in the end Sears is doomed to end if they cant change to the times, which is online and figuring out how to have a good balance of stores, warehouses and online. Hudsons Bay is of course always doing well, recently bought Saks, plus all their other stores. I wonder though how long Sears will last, what do you guys think?

Funny because Sears Robuck started as the original mail order store.

Sears should have been on the forefront of online shopping, they have forgotten their own past.

It is sad to see that @SansVarnic

Their stores are empty of customers. Sometimes I walk through Sears to get to the mall.

The thing I always hated about that store is you had to hunt down a cashier, and they never had no shopping carts.

Plus when I walked through the store, all the employee's are twiddling their thumbs and on their cell phone.

Sure the ones in the perfume area are hot, heck even milfs.
