Recently the prices have gone up and availability is poor, at least in Europe. What can we expect during the summer? 800+ euros for 1080ti is bad, also 1070GTX are over 450 euros here. Is there any hope of things improving? Even in the aftermarket most cards are bought by miners and regular gamers are left with expensive options.

Wait for people get bored of ethereum and sell their stock of dozens of RX 400-500 series, hell even 200 series are getting bought and even nvidia cards to flood the markets. I'd give it a few months/weeks before you see RX 480/580's to drop to below $150 on the used market.

Good point. It does make sense that if (or more likely when) this cryptocurrency flops, All the cards will spill back onto the used market for ridiculously cheap prices. I am looking into building a mini-itx rig soon-ish and it will be interesting to see what prices we get when people get bored of this.
