New CPU

I'm hoping to get a new motherboard and CPU quite soon, but I dont know what to get. If I was hoping to get a Z170-A motherboard (around 170 GBP), can anyone recommend me some RAM and a CPU that I could use that wouldn't push my budget too far over 400 GBP? Also, the CPU needs to be quad core with at least 3.0 GHz, but I might be willing to stretch that.

start with the CPU and select a mobo and RAM that fit. the CPU is the most important of those three.

I don't know what pricing is like for you, so I can't really tell you what to get, but maybe a ryzen 5 1500x, a corsair vengeance 2x8 kit of 3000mhz RAM and a B350 motherboard that has all the connections that you want

Are you wanting to overclock? If so then I would go with i5 6600k/ i5 7600k which is about $180 used and $235 new. If you do not beed to overclock there is no need for a z170 board and you can save some money. The i5 7500 brand new is $199.99 and is a 3.8ghz. a b250 motherboard is $75-$100.

For ram I like the Corsair Vengeance LPX

I'm hoping actually to move away from AMD for good, I don't really care if their Ryzen CPUs are better

why is that? in my opinion you shouldn't really select a product because of it's brand but because of its performance. ofcourse it is your choice, but why get something that performs worse for the same price?

The i5 7500 doesn' t look too bad, although I don't know what socket FCLGA1151 is, I'd assume its just the same as LGA1151, but I'd like to be sure

I would go with a Ryzen 5 1600. It's price and gaming performance is roughly the same as an i5, but it totally crushes the i5 in everything else. It's got 6 cores and 12 threads.

For a motherboard, I would go with the MSI B350 PC Mate - an absolutely fantastic value of a motherboard and you can overclock with that B350 chipset.

I picked 16GB of 3000MHz RAM.

You could also get a 1700 & X370 board instead if you wanted to utilize that money saved from the Z170 but this might push your budget.

I understand that you've had issues with AMD CPUs in the past but I can tell you that Intel is nothing extraordinary. I had both AMD and Intel CPUs and the brand is not what you should judge your purchase on, but rather a balance of value for your money and performance in your use scenario as well as longevity for the future.

In the mid-ranged segment, the R5 1600 is the best CPU factoring all those above.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

I would strongly advise you to reconsider your position.  I'm not sure what you use your PC for, but if its for anything multi threaded or production related, you'll be kicking yourself for choosing that i5.  Ryzen is still young and has nowhere to go but up, especially when developers start making games( and other programs) with Ryzen in mind.
