GPU working but can't connect monitors

I have two 1080tis on my computer and 2 Dell 27"4k monitor connected to one of them, and one day my monitors just went black, no sound came out of my speakers or even headphones. I wasn't updating or doing anything in particular, they just went black. I tried restarting a bunch of times and finally the only thing that worked was connecting my monitors to my second GPU, but I am afraid that this happens again with this GPU. And today another weird thing happened where youtube videos would play a blank green screen, after a restart everything came back to normal.

I'm sure both GPUs are working fine because I used them for GPU Rendering with Octane Render inside Cinema 4D but I can't connect any of my monitors to the first GPU if I do, both monitors go black, and I lose sound.

No SLI. I'm actually checking the drivers, but just noticed that NVIDIA control panel doesn't work anymore and reading online, apparently it's an issue with the latest Windows Creators Update

Try SLI and see if it works differently. Unless of course Nvidia Control Panel still isn't opening. I'd make sure Windows is as up to date as possible as well.

Why would SLI work any differently? AFAIK SLI is just for gaming

I'd try it. AFAIK, SLI just combines the GPUs so they act like one, sharing the task equally. It uses the VRAM from the top (1st) card, and it may let you use the output from that without problems. Other than that, reinstall drivers, update, update Windows, then reinstall Windows if all else fails.

just tried updating to NVIDIA driver 382.33 (late may 2017) and middle of the installation monitors went black. Had to do a hard reset. I'm back up and running but the driver didn't update
