First of all, I want you to know that this is my first post.

The reason I am posting this is because I have been planning this build for over 2 months and I would like feedback and opinions regarding my current choices.

Here's the standard Q&A, as per the pinned post instructions.

1. Budget & Location

The location is Greece, and the budget is around 1000-1200 euros (1126.35 $ - 1351.62 $). The parts will be purchased from local shops.

2. Aim

I plan to use this pc for programming (mainly with Netbeans, Android Studio and Visual Studio), and for a few games, such as Heroes of the Storm, Overwatch, Rocket League and Total War: Warhammer.

3. Monitors

1 23" LG Monitor @ 1080p. Considering to upgrade to a 1440p one.

4. Peripherals

I already have speakers, keyboard and a mouse, so I will not be purchasing any.

5. Why are you upgrading?

My pc currently consists of a Core 2 Duo E8600 @ 3.33 GHz and a Radeon HD 6770. I cannot operate Android Studio without waiting for at least 5-10 minutes until it fully loads. All browsers have been getting slow, despite the fact that I regularly use CCleaner to wipe any useless files. Overwatch suffers greatly, as my gpu cannot sustain more than 30fps at low settings with rendering quality at 75%. I haven't been able to upgrade my pc until now, because I lacked the funds to do so.

What I am currently planning to buy:(I also converted to US$ to save you some trouble.)

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 (@ 234 € ~ 263.64 $) (Reasons @ cpubenchmarks. I wanted this cpu because, it is fairly cheap, it performs better than the i7 7700, which is currently the best mainstream cpu intel offers. I also believe the x299 motherboard price will go above 200-300$, so not an option. The reason I did not go for the Ryzen 7 1700 is that its benchmark score is not so much higher than the Ryzen 5 1600, and the Ryzen 5 1600X has an even lower benchmark score. The Ryzen 5 1600 also comes with a decent cooler from what i've heard.)
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte AB350-Gaming 3 (rev. 1.0) (@126.00 € ~ 141.96 $) or Asus Prime B350 Plus (@ 102.99 € ~ 116.03 $) (I have been told the Gigabyte motherboard might be better, because of BIOS updates fixing the RAM problems Ryzen has at the moment.)
  • Graphics Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 6GB AMP! Edition+ (ZT-P10600G-10M) (@ 282.80 € ~ 318.62 $)
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4-3200MHz (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16) (@ 147.40 € ~ 166.07 $)
  • HDD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB M.2 (@ 110.00 €  ~  123.93 $)
  • PSU: Corsair CX Series 650X (@ 87.00 € ~ 98.02 $)
  • Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400 (@ 73.66 € ~ 82.99 $) or Phanteks Eclipse P400s (@ 84.82 € ~ 95.56 $) (I prefer the look Phanteks cases have.)

Total build cost: 1037.85 € ~ 1072.02 € (1169.29 $ ~ 1207.79 $).

My current conundrums are:

  • About the selection of the motherboard.
  • I'm not too woried about the PSU, but I welcome any comments about this.
  • I briefly considered the CoolerMaster HAF XB Evo as a case, because of its horizontal motherboard placement. I thought it might be better for the graphics card, if it was placed vertically, in order to avoid any potential sagging. I do not know if such a feature is worth the 20-30 extra euros as opposed to the cases mentioned above.
  • Concerning the cooling of the CPU, I don't think I need a different cooler than the one AMD provides.

All constructive comments and opinions concerning the build are appreciated.

Thank you very much for taking time out of your day to read this.

You could get a 8gb 580 asus for about the same as the 1060 amp, but its really preference because the amp! edition is really good too.  Otherwise id only change the psu to a 530w tier II seasonic.  If you just want more storage then go for a 500-750gb ssd, but a m.2 will be much faster.  Again it's really preference

I should have said that I already own a 2TB HDD from Western Digital, so I don't really have a storage problem.

As far as the 580 and the PSU, I will look into them.
