Best external drive?

I'm looking for an external drive (preferably SSD) to use until prices for m.2 PCIe SSD's come down to upgrade my laptop with.

I'm looking for a large capacity (1TB or more) external drive that  I can store my music, movie, and game library onto, as well as my school documents, which often include files of tens of GB's (lots of large pictures, renderings) that need quick transfers. 

Any affordable suggestions?

Buy a Samsung 850 EVO or any SSD you want and slap a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter on to it.

Get a USB 3.0 WD MyPassport instead

You're right, they don't. 

Any suggestions for an option that uses more ubiquitous connections? I'm not a fan of the MyPssport's 10 pin micro b connection cause its kind of hard to replace on a moment's notice.

Not unless you want to opt for USB 2.0, which invalidates your need for speedy transfer.

micro-b usb 3.0 cables are actually cheap to replace. Just get a 10-pack off of eBay for $10

Oh, I had no idea the 10 pin micro USB's were USB 3.0.

i don't like usb 3 micro b either but every other 2.5" usb 3 hdd uses this connection and the 3.5" start using it too so you won't have much alternatives
