Router restarts itself

I have been having a problem with my router where it will restart itself. Sometimes when I am on the internet, I get a DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG but unfortunately I am unable to tell if I get the error when the router restarts while I am in game. My router is the Actiontec GT784WNV

Feel the top and bottom of your router. If either side is more than "comfortably warm" i.e. if you couldn't keep you hand on it indefinitely, then the router may be overheating.

 

The other possible problem is a memory leak in the router's firmware, routers are just little specialized computers and if all the memory gets used up, they reboot. For most consumer routers there is no way to chcek the free memory amount to be sure, but you can try updating the firmware if there is an update available, or possibly flash it to an open source firmware like DD-WRT or Tomato.
