The quick issue I am finding with this laptop is for video playback its not taking advantage of the dedicated 960m. 4k60 videos are suffering like no other to play due to how intensive it is on the cpu. I have tried every possible step to use the gpu with no success. This includes the NVidia control panel changing to the NVidia processer. afterburner shows no gpu use at all for any of this so I am at a loss of what to do.

how are you watching the videos?

saved files, youtube, netflix, streaming etc

also what browser if not playing a saved video

Chrome, Firefox, edge. They all have issues playing from YouTube. Netflix has no issues as it's not playing 4k.

You can't accelerate 4k playback with the GPU on youtube. What's your laptop>

The insprion 7559. even then I shouldn't be having this issue with a i7

most likely a software issue on your side. just reinstall windows. fresh install. or a power setting. there was once i set my power setting to power saver and i was wondering why i was lagging on hd videos.

that has been tried. this was store bought and a total wipe was done with a fresh install with a m.2. My cpu will spike up very high for it.

do you have a good enough network to watch 4k?

does it just stutter? try a different browser.

Chrome will play then freeze. Play then freeze. It's new within the last week. My 4790k on my desktop has no issues with 4k60.

By default, in any recent browser (Chrome, Firefox) YouTube will try to use a codec called VP8/VP9 which is not hardware accelerated (your CPU does all the heavy lifting), but file sizes are up to 50% smaller than h264, and thus being prefer for streaming.

What you need to do is force YouTube to use h264, this can be done using plugins or extension like h264ify, which will fool YouTube by reporting the browser as NO VP8/VP9 compatible.

I have tested this with my personal laptop (Dell Inspiron 7559) with Fire Fox and it works, CPU load is 100% while playing 4k60fps videos with the extension OFF, and stays around 30% or 40% with the extension ON. This is using the Video Card integrated on the Intel Core i5, you could make the switch to use the GTX 960m if you like on the nvidia settings.

Hope this helps.
